Peschiera del Garda is situated at the southern end of Lake Garda. The strategic position of the town encouraged human settlements dating back to the prehistoric age. In Roman times and the middle ages Peschiera was a fortress town. This is the reason why the town centre was built on two islands surrounded by large walls.
It is a popular tourist destination with excellent hotels, good restaurants, bars and shops and many tourist attractions. From the harbour it is possible to reach all the towns on the lake by ferryboat (Bardolino, Riva, Desenzano etc.). The train offers an easy option to travel to many cultural and artistic centres such as Verona, Venice, Milan, Mantova.
